Courtesy of www.genericclaritin.info Claritin (Loratadine) is a second-generation antihistamine drug closely structurally related to tricyclic antidepressants such as imipramine, and distantly related to the atypical antipsychotic quetiapine, used to treat allergies. It is marketed by Schering-Plough under several trade names such as Claritin, and by Shionogi in Japan. Loratadine (Claritin) is available as a generic drug and is marketed for its non-sedating properties. To a very large degree, a mammal is a mammal. The anatomy and physiology of dogs and cats is very similar to humans. It stands to follow that most pharmaceuticals have uses that transcend species lines. Almost all medications used in veterinary medicine have counterparts (often the exact chemical) in human medicine.
But just like humans, not all medications are safe and appropriate for all animals. And just because a drug can be sold without a prescription does not imply that it is without risk or side-effects.
No medications, even those sold readily over-the-counter, should be given without the expressed permission of a doctor.
When conditions arise that are not immediately life threatening or when there is a less expensive alternative to prescription medication, you may find a source of therapy right in your own medicine cabinet. Just don’t forget to ask your veterinarian first!
So what are some common medications that can be used for your pet?
I love Claritin as it has worked wonders for my 4 year old son, who suffers from seasonal allergies…but he along with his 5 year old sister refuse to take this liquid Claritin because they claim it is “yuck”. I have tried it myself and find that it does have a slight medicine taste. Because of that “yuck” taste, my children prefer the Claritin RediTabs. Those are so expensive that I went to our childrens pediatrician in search of a cheaper method to treat their allergies and I was informed that the childrens dosage contains 5mg of the active ingredient and the adult dosage contains 10mg…thus cutting the adult RediTab in 1/2 results in the same dosage as the childrens formula. This has been a wonderful help in paying for my son’s Claritin because an adult box of 30 RediTabs lasts him 60 days for the same price as a childrens box of 20 chewable tablets. Now, I am no doctor and am only relaying to you what my childs pediatrician said was OK to do.

“I have had allergy tests and shots, cortisone nasal sprays, antihistamine samples including Claratin, Seldane, etc and nothing helps. My nose is plugged and I am miserable for weeks at a time. What can I do ?” This patient was diagnosed chronic sinusitis. After a 4 day treatment she is now 5 years clear of suffering and after several years and some extreme medical treatments that didn’t work she traveled half way across the country to see Dr.Lieurance, Cranial expert, for NCR or NeuroCranial Restructuring. Don’t have turbinate surgery or Somnoplasty or any intrusive treatment often prescribed by EENT’s and medical professionals. If your sinus’s are blocked you can enlarge them so you can breath easier and more openly. The removal of vital cilia and mucous membrane. The cilia wave back and forth, moving the mucous, and the pollen, germs, and irritants caught in it, around the sinuses until they are flushed out to the stomach via the back of the throat. This is the way your body prevents bacteria from entering the body while you are breathing through your nose; proper cilia action is essential for your health. Using nasal irrigation, Nasal irrigation is cleaning out your nose with a fluid. When you have a horrible head cold, or your nose is running with allergies, you’ve probably wished you could just flush your sinuses and nasal passages clean somehow. Well, doctors have done this for many years, it used to be called a “Proetz machine”, and it forced a solution of Ham …
Sinusitis can often be painful with many symptoms that cause a lot of discomfort. There are many causes of sinusitis, yet only two types, acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis. Acute sinusitis is when the symptoms come very rarely due to an infection or inflammation. Chronic sinusitis is when the symptoms keep occurring frequently. This is more because of the constant presence of allergens or a permanent anatomical defect that must be rectified.
Sinusitis is often characterized by running nose, blockage, congestion and difficulty in breathing and stuffiness. The mucus in the nose that is secreted in excessive quantities in case of a running nose should also be observed to indicate what the cause is. It could be green or slightly yellow, thick or thin, or in some cases blood streaked due to a ruptured blood vessel affected by excessive blowing of the nose.
The most prominent cause of sinusitis is infection and inflammation due to micro-organisms. Sinusitis is often caused by virus. There are thousands of virus strains and hence it is difficult to control such a viral attack. The symptoms are all similar to common flu and it is usually referred to as a upper respiratory infection. The worrying part is that even if it is common, it should be treated otherwise it may lead to the more serious bacterial infection. Sinusitis caused by viral infection might last for 2 weeks during which one might suffer from a lot of mucus. This could be treated by using antibiotics targeted at the virus. Antibiotics in themselves are very powerful drugs and one should not stop the course midway else the condition will revert back to the original symptoms.
Thanks for the B-Day wishes all. Oh I talked to the Ped. about another allergy medicine for Doodle and she told me to try childrens Clartin or Loratadine, she said she has told all the parnets that use Benadryl to no longer use it!!She actually said ” I hate that stuff”. I knew it wasn’t good to knock your kid out haha!! So if your using it you may want to talk to your Ped. about another choice, apperantly its not to good for children, even though its made for them. I did not set the house on Only power LMAO!
If you’re buying Benadryl allergy medicine, or even a house brand generic, you’re paying way too much. This is an excellent, low-cost generic that will reduce your drug costs by roughly 80%. Highly recommended.
For many people, Zyrtec works even better. The generic version of Zyrtec is Members Mark Cetirizine Allergy – 350 ct
